Making a Splash!

Here in the Bahamas, our gardens are really important to us. They're an extension of our homes.

That's why we were blown away by “Splash,” the International Garden Club's spectacular standard flower show at the Nassau Yacht Club.

It was the first show in ten years, it was packed and the tea that followed was sold out.

To understand Bahamians, you really have to visit the Bahamas.

We love to dress in vibrant colours of turquoise, yellow and pink.

That's because many of our homes are painted in their more pastel shades and our flowers pick up these colours in brighter hues.

Just about year round – but especially during this period – our gardens are a spectacular riot of colour.

We bring this colour into our homes with flowers spilling out of pretty vases.

Splash showcased roses, hibiscus, bromeliads, other perennials, vines and climbing plants, succulents and cacti.

The arrangements were works of art - sculptures using flowers and plant material as the medium – and spoke volumes of our Bahamas homes and gardens.

Kudos to Splash chairperson Caroline Albury and her committee for all their hard work.
