Time to Spruce up Your Bahamas Home

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and it's a great time for outdoor Bahamas home improvement chores.

Not hot and not cold - balmy without the humidity of summer.

This is a good time to pick away at minor home problems before they become big ones.

Cracks in the walls? Scrape off any loose plaster near the crack with a plastic wall scraper. If the crack disappears, use a little Spackling compound, sandpaper the plaster and then paint the area to repair.

If the crack runs deeper and deeper, ask a mason to look at it. They may have to chip away at the wall and treat a steel column for rust before restoring the area.

This is a common problem in homes, especially older ones, and it's best to tackle it sooner rather than later or the problem will get worse.

A lot of Bahamas homes have wrought iron gates.

These need to be treated for rust every now and then.

Again, it's far easier to restore the bars with a treatment, such as Ospho rust followed by paint, in the early stages before the rust really sets in.

Give the boxing under your roof a good cleaning with vinegar and water, or paint if necessary.

This is the time of year when we love to roll up our sleeves and work in our gardens here in the Bahamas.

Nothing attracts Bahamas home buyers more than a pretty porch and colourful garden.
