Showers and Poinciana Flowers

Poinciana June is a particularly beautiful time of year in many of the Bahamas islands where the Royal Poinciana trees have come into bloom. Nature puts on a spectacular display with large clusters of flaming orange and red flowers bursting forth from feathery nests of green leaves. The islands of Nassau and Great Exuma are stunning with the flamboyant flowers popping up all over the place. In Nassau, where West Bay Street winds towards the exclusive Lyford Cay residential community, the trees form a cathedral-like red tunnel. The beautiful old Eastern Road also showcases the Royal Poinciana with the sea providing a delightful backdrop. Eastern Road is dotted with lovely homes painted in the soft pastels of the islands. On the island of Great Exuma, Edie Minns tossed Poinciana seeds throughout the bush every time she and her husband, Nigel, went for a Sunday drive. Edie is long gone, but the hundreds of Royal Poincianas that grow wild throughout the island are a living monument to her love for these beautiful trees.
