The holiday season's in full swing throughout the beautiful islands of the Bahamas.
Palm trees and the traditional Christmas trees imported from the north are dressed in fairy lights, sand dollars and ornaments. The glorious sound of Christmas carols reverberates throughout our churches and Bahamas homes.
Goat skin drums and cowbells fill the air with melodious music as dancers warm up for the annual Junkanoo festivals.
Sailboat masts are lit with Christmas lights and stars in the harbours.
In our Bahamas homes, the traditional holiday breakfast of “burl fish” – boiled fish – poached fish and potatoes in a spicy broth - is served on Christmas morning and New Year's morning after the all night Junkanoo parties.
Others are celebrating the Festival of Lights, the Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem dating back to the Maccabean Revolt.
We're basking in the warm sunshine, picnicking on the islands and still swimming in the turquoise sea.
The evenings are cooler and we're sitting around our outdoor fire places under the night stars.
Happy Holidays – from our Bahamas homes to wherever you may be.
