They’re willing to hold open houses or real estate expos on weekends, and to work beyond 9am to 5pm hours. A real estate career requires 100 % commitment. But to those who aren’t afraid of hard work, there’s the potential for high earnings.

The Criteria

First and foremost, you must be a Bahamian citizen or a permanent resident with the right to work to legally practice real estate in the Bahamas. The latter is a restricted, involved and lengthy process.

Secondly, you will need to pass the Bahamas Real Estate Association exam under the sponsorship of a Bahamas real estate broker.

Upon passing the exam, you have six months to apply for a Bahamas Real Estate licence. You must work for three months full time during the six month period and the application must be made during those three months.

You will need a good education, the ability to deal with people and computer skills. You’ll be required to pull all the various components together to complete a transaction, stay current in real estate law and to take advantage of ongoing training.
