If you’re driven, prepared to work hard and like meeting people, then real estate may be a career for you.
The Bahamas real estate profession offers an exciting career selection in home and commercial sales, rentals and appraisals. Helping people buy and sell homes, vacant land and commercial buildings can be extremely rewarding.
Advantages and Rewards of a Career in Real Estate
A real estate career allows you to set your own pace. Your earnings will reflect your efforts.
Successful real estate agents have goals, are self-motivated, ambitious and people-oriented. They can persevere if the economy slumps and the going gets tough.
They’re willing to hold open houses or real estate expos on weekends, and to work beyond 9am to 5pm hours. A real estate career requires 100 % commitment. But to those who aren’t afraid of hard work, there’s the potential for high earnings.
You’ll meet a lot of interesting people, have the opportunity to help others, earn respect in your community and grow from the challenges involved. The job’s intellectually stimulating, and working in real estate to a great extent allows you to carve your own time.
First and foremost, you must be a Bahamian citizen or a permanent resident with the right to work to legally practice real estate in the Bahamas. The latter is a restricted, involved and lengthy process.
Secondly, you will need to pass the Bahamas Real Estate Association exam under the sponsorship of a Bahamas real estate broker.
Upon passing the exam, you have six months to apply for a Bahamas Real Estate licence. You must work for three months full time during the six month period and the application must be made during those three months.
You will need a good education, the ability to deal with people and computer skills. You’ll be required to pull all the various components together to complete a transaction, stay current in real estate law and to take advantage of ongoing training.
