Can you believe it?
The 2017 hurricane season opened on June 1.
Ouch! The last two seasons have wreaked havoc on some of our Bahamas homes and many people are still struggling to recover from the damage, especially residents of Long Island, Andros and Grand Bahama.
We all know it only takes one hurricane to cause tremendous damage to our homes and property.
A total of 12 named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes are expected this season.
The roof takes the full impact of hurricane force winds.
We live in a hurricane belt and so every roof in the Bahamas should be tied to the wall with hurricane straps.

Strong hurricane winds wield an uplift effect on the roof. These winds can pull shingles from your roof and cause damage.

A well-maintained roof and tree trimming provide the best defense against inland hurricane roof damage.
Has your roof been inspected lately?

Missing shingles, split seams and broken, cracked or curled shingles all point to roof decay. Dents or bruises on asphalt shingles are an indication of possible damage.

Asphalt shingles are coated with tiny granules to protect the roof from UV-rays. A build-up of these particles in gutters may be a sign of deterioration.

There are various grades of shingles that offer varying degrees of protection and durability.
