MEET THE TALENTED MINNIS FAMILY

Bahamian Art at its Best

THE MINNIS FAMILY is probably the most talented in the Bahamas.
Eddie Minnis and his two daughters, Nicole and Roshanne, have blazed a name in the art world by capturing the beautiful images of the Bahamas on canvas.

Eddie’s palette knife technique has won him international acclaim.
Coldwell Banker Lightbourn Realty is proud that Eddie is one of its Bahamas real estate sales agents. The company nicknamed him their ‘singing salesman,’ because of his hit Bahamian songs.
Eddie was born on October 14th, 1947. He was educated at St. John's College and Government High School in Nassau. He graduated from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, in 1971 with a BSc. degree in Architecture. But his first love was painting and he decided to pursue a career in art.
Eddie is a self-taught artist. He has worked in a number of mediums including ink, watercolours and pastels.
He specializes in oil painting with the palette knife. He’s developed a unique technique. Eddie's paintings are strikingly 3-dimensional in appearance and vibrate with the bright colour and light of the Bahamas. His paintings are in private collections in many parts of the world including the U.S.A., Canada, Britain, Australia and Korea.
Eddie’s also a popular singer and songwriter. He has 10 calypso albums to his credit - "Der Real Ting", "Nicole and Shan an ...", "Island Life", "Mind Your Own Business", "Junkanoo Jam", "Guilty", "Hey Mon", "Discovery", and "Greatest Hits I and II".
Eddie is deeply religious. This has affected his appreciation of the beauty of creation which he portrays in his work.
He is an elder in the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in North Eleuthera where he lives with his wife, Sherry.

Nicole is the eldest of three children. She was born in 1970 and she graduated from Queen's College Senior High School.
She was recognised for her art soon after leaving school when she won numerous Central Bank and Esso competitions.
She held her first individual Art Exhibition in 1988 and has never looked back. She has participated in numerous joint family art shows along with her father and sister, Roshanne. Her work has been displayed in the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas' Inaugural National Exhibition.
Nicole works mainly in oils. In her paintings, she tries to capture the beauty of the Bahamian people enjoying natural, everyday activities. Her paintings are in private art collections throughout the Bahamas, Barbados, Canada, and the United States.
Nicole is a pioneer minister of Jehovah's Christian Witnesses.

Roshanne Eyma (nee Minnis) was born in 1972. Her interest in art began early in life, but she started painting seriously in 1986.
A 1988 Queens College graduate, she’s received awards in several art competitions, including the Esso and Central Bank art contests. She has also participated in a number of joint exhibitions with her father, Eddie Minnis, and sister, Nicole.
Roshanne’s married to fellow artist, Ritchie Eyma. They both serve as pioneer ministers of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Haitian community in Nassau, helping people improve their lives through Bible education.
Roshanne paints in oils and soft pastel. Her chief interest has been figure studies of local people in natural settings. She enjoys nature studies and is fascinated by the beautiful Bahamian waters. Her paintings are presently in private collections in the Bahamas, Canada, and the United States. Roshanne and her husband Ritchie have recently joined the Coldwell Banker Lightbourn realty family and are now serving as Bahamas real estate agents!
