On Saturday, Spencer White, a real estate broker and sales associate with Coldwell Banker Lightbourn Realty, will join scores of Bahamians in the annual Ride for Hope cancer fundraiser in Eleuthera.
Ride for Hope brings together a diverse group of people, including the president of the Bahamas Senate, lawyers, teachers, blue collar workers and school children.
They will cycle through some of the most beautiful real estate in the Bahamas. Eleuthera is studded with pristine beaches and has gorgeous rolling country with small quaint villages.
Spencer will join more than 400 people who will ride whatever distance they're up to. The full stretch is 100 miles, but the beauty of it is, you stop whenever you want – no pressure.
Sponsored by VMG Racings, Ride for Hope was designed to give back to the community, according to Stephen Holowesko, VMG president.
"This event not only raises funding, but it also raises hope for those afflicted with cancer and awareness among the population at large that together we can make a difference,” he told The Nassau Guardian.
Ride for Hope provides for a truly inspiring weekend. For many, it's a personal journey.
Volunteers will provide snacks and re-refill water bottles along the route with course marshals and local police there to ensure safety. There are also mobile bike mechanics with tire repair kits.
Last year, more than 100 cyclists between the ages of four and 74 took part in the event in Eleuthera.
And more than $300,000 was raised for the benefit of The Cancer Society of the Bahamas.
Every year, the number of participants grows. This year, more than 400 people are expected to Ride for Hope.
Coldwell Banker Lightbourn Realty wishes these champions a fun and safe journey.
