Walking for Ty in the Bahamas

Coldwell Banker Lightbourn Realty agents and admin workers put real estate on hold Saturday morning to take part in a walk-a-thon in aid of four-year-old Ty Bethel.
Ty, the son of Tim and Mizpah Bethel of Nassau, is being treated for leukemia at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. He was diagnosed with Down's syndrome when he was one.
He's the adorable nephew of Jane-Michele Bethel, one of our Nassau brokers.
A diverse group of about 200 turned up at Queen's College, the starting point of Saturday's event, and walked down Village Road, looped around the Montagu Park, and then returned to QC.
Pastor Matthew Sweeting, Ty's uncle, kicked off the event with a short prayer, thanking everyone for turning out in such an overwhelming show of support. Then, with a banner of Ty held aloft, we started our walk.
Emotions ran strong as children skipped, mothers pushed prams and everyone walked the walk for Ty.
We hope that by standing together, we were able to channel strength to this brave little boy's family.
Ty's parents have relocated to Florida for the duration of Ty's treatment. Mizpah will give birth shortly to their second child as she and Tim go through the hospital process with Ty.
Ty's responding well to his treatment – there's a 95 % cure rate for his particular type of cancer.
For those who may wish to make a donation, a medical fund has been opened for Ty at First Caribbean Int'l Bank, Harbour Bay, Nassau, a/c 201-367-116.
Meanwhile, in Eleuthera, our agent Spencer White braved blazing heat – temp in the 90s - and disgusting humidity to cycle 50 miles in the Ride for Hope, an annual cancer fund raiser.
After the punishing ride, which included traversing lots of rolling country, we understand Spencer discovered leg muscles he never knew existed.
These events follow the recent Pink Ball cancer fund raiser, which was held at The Hilton in Nassau by the Inner Wheel of Nassau. Our broker, Heather Peterson, is the president of Inner Wheel. Heather and Melissa Boals of our admin staff worked very hard to make the Ball a success.
A respectable $26,000 was raised and donated to The Cancer Society of the Bahamas for Breast and Prostate Cancer treatment.
