The world class Atlantis resort and casino on Paradise Island, Bahamas, has spent ‘a seven digit figure' on bringing about a six-episode prime time American TV show in which celebrities and professional athletes will compete in various sporting events.
The celebrities will swim, bike, kayak and so on for a grand prize. Kerzner International, which owns Atlantis, said the millions of dollars used to draw a major American television network to the Bahamas will generate fantastic exposure for the Bahamas, unrivalled by traditional marketing techniques.
ABC will bring back the ‘Superstars' format, first televised in 1973, starting in June with hour long ‘reality' shows.
Atlantis also will host the Miss Teen and Miss Universe USA pageants this summer. And the pop stars, Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus, will perform in concert.
The programme is part of an innovative strategy to stimulate American visitor arrivals in the face of a US economic slump.
