Forgive us for diverting from our subject of Bahamas real estate today, but we'd like to share some exciting news.
Gavin McKinney, filmmaker, international sailor and son of the Bahamas, will be honoured at the 2009 Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF).
McKinney will receive BIFF's first Bahamian Tribute Award for his work as a director and photographer.
His underwater film career started in 1973 when he worked as a diver on Day of the Dolphin. He's spent a whopping 20,000 hours underwater making films!
McKinney's worked on more than 50 feature films and television shows. In the Bahamas, he's especially known for the five James Bond films he worked on, including Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me and Never Say Never Again.
He not only worked behind the scenes with logistics and planning, McKinney was the Bond underwater double in For Your Eyes Only and The World Is Not Enough.
He worked four months on The Abyss in 1988 and since 2001 he's co-produced and filmed three thrilling three dimensional underwater films for the Imax theatres.
Well done, Gavin!
