Get out your camera and roll up your sleeves, the Royal Poinciana's blooming! In the coming weeks, Nassau will be ablaze with the flaming red and orange blossoms of this most spectacular flowering tree. Nassau real estate shows especially well at this time of year as many a home gets dolled up with the vibrant flowers of the Poinciana. One of the most flamboyant scenes here in Nassau is the stretch of West Bay Street leading to the gated enclave of Lyford Cay - a "tunnel" under a fire of flowers.
This is one of our favorite times of year and we're not alone. Some of the most magnificent art produced in the Bahamas is a celebration of the Poinciana.
The Poinciana comes in many colors – yellow, orange, white – but the red is the most prevalent in Nassau. It's certainly the most eye-catching.
In fact, the red Poinciana or Delonix regia is considered one of the five most beautiful flowering trees in the world.
The bright red/orange flowers contrast beautifully with the feathery green foliage. After the flowering stage, the green leaves provide cool shade throughout the summer before shedding in the winter months, resting for their next magnificent show.
