Nassau is ablaze with the flamboyant red and orange flowers of the Royal Poinciana.
In June and July, and even stretching onwards, nature puts on her most spectacular show on the island when these trees are covered in the most gorgeous flowers, set against the beautiful blue Bahamian sky.
We're lucky the property owners of old planted so many of these beautiful trees that stretch along some of the most scenic drives on the island.
Two of our favourite drives during this season are along Eastern Road, with its charming old island homes set against an ever changing seascape, and the scenic western stretch leading towards Lyford Cay – all on fire in brilliant tongues of flame.
When the flowers eventually fade and fall, the delicate, fern-like leaves provide a green canopy of shade during the remainder of the hot months.
