BAHAMAS Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, in a recent address to the nation, indicated his government will again attempt to privatize the Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation this year.
His government's costly efforts to do so under a previous term led to a mass downsizing, but the exercise was not completed during that tenure and a considerable number of people were rehired.
Ingraham also said his government will pursue “with utmost vigor and determination” a Trust Agenda to strengthen all branches, agencies and departments of the Bahamas government. He said reforms will be initiated where necessary.
And Ingraham said his government will work towards a new culture of excellence in the service of the Bahamian people, including their ethical conduct. The culture, he said, will be “hostile to slackness and corrupt practices."
He said his government knows the exercise will be painful to some and expects criticism, and it may even have to pay a political price.
