The Bahamas is expected to receive a hefty economic boost with the hosting of the 58th Miss Universe pageant at the world class Atlantis resort on Paradise Island near Nassau in August.
Bahamian investment guru Owen Bethel (Montaque Group) says the event will play Pied Piper to thousands of followers and the benefits will be similar to having a major movie on location in the Bahamas.
It will also give us an opportunity to show anyone who's interested Bahamas real estate, whether it's in New Providence where the capital of Nassau resides, or our beautiful group of Family Islands, including Abaco, Eleuthera, Exuma, Long Island, Harbour Island and Spanish Wells.
Bethel points out that the Bahamas will be featured in about 90 countries via live coverage – translating into significant value to the Bahamas as a tourist destination.
He said Pirates of the Caribbean injected about $40 million into the Bahamas' economy, and projected a $10 to 20 million shot in the arm from the Miss Universe pageant.
