Poinciana

EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL

If you haven't seen the Poinciana bloom in Nassau, you've missed out on one of the most spectacular sights on the island. The flamboyant trees are awakening from their seasonal slumber after the recent heavy rainfall. Everywhere we look, the blossoms are shooting forth in flames of red and orange. Poinciana trees can be found just about anywhere in Nassau. The western shore road leading to Lyford Cay, the exclusive world class residential enclave, is particularly stunning with its cathedral-like red tunnel. The lovely old Eastern Road residential area also showcases the Poinciana - the sea and charming, high end homes provide a picture perfect backdrop. Eastern Road is lined with many lovely old homes that capture the charm of yesteryear. The homes are painted in the soft pastels of Old Nassau. Seascapes of dazzling turquoise and blues, and look-out points dot the road. These luxury homes have poetic names - Wind Whistle, New Moon, Bally Crystal and Wave Crest. The older homes, such as The Hermitage, home to the priests of the Catholic Diocese of Nassau, are perched on cliffs high above the sea with sprawling gardens running down to the Eastern Road. Old native stone and colourful walls line the road; bright bougainvillea cascades down. In June and July, the road is ablaze with the gorgeous red Poinciana flowers and the yellow Shower of Gold. Several magnificent Silk Cotton trees provide a green canopy overhead. Everything is beautiful. Eastern Road Listings
