Fort Charlotte
Take a tour of Fort Charlotte which overlooks the Nassau Harbour. Fort Charlotte is the largest of the three forts found in Nassau. The fort was built in 1789 by Lord Dunmore and named in honor of the wife of King George III. This fort has never fired a shot in battle. It includes a water-less moat, draw-bridge, ramparts and dungeons. Admission is free. Tours are conducted Monday through Sunday, 8am to 3pm.
Queen's Staircase
Nassau's most visited attraction and most famous architectural site is the Queen's Staircase. Climb the 65 steps that link Fort Fincastle to the Princess Margaret Hospital. They were carved out of solid limestones by slaves in the late 18th century, between 1793 and 1794. This 102 foot staircase was named in honour of the 65 years of Queen's Victoria's reign. Construction of this monument is still regarded as remarkable.
Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center
Situated only minutes from the heart of downtown Nassau, Bahamas, there is no place quite like the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center. The 5-½ acre park is part jungle, part gardens and home to hundreds of beautiful mammals, birds and reptiles from around the world, including many endangered species from the Bahamas and the Greater Caribbean.
Junkanoo Expo
A brand new attraction at Nassau's waterfront. The first Museum of it's kind showcasing large, colorful, intricately designed artistic creations from recently passed Junkanoo parades, held annually on December 26th and New Year's Day. The Expo complex also includes a souvenir boutique, with Junkanoo paintings and a variety of Junkanoo craft. Open daily 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission: $2.00 adults, $0.50 children.
Cable Beach
It was a beach without a name until 1907, when the trans-atlantic cable was laid here, connecting The Bahamas to Jupiter, Florida. This beautiful beach is now the ultimate tropical playground, finged by hotels and casinos.
