Sure it's exciting, but moving into your new Bahamas home will probably have its share of challenges. What move doesn't?

So we offer these tips to help keep you sane and to make the big day run as smoothly as possible

Moving Tip #1: Plan early! Select a moving company at least a month in advance of moving into your new Bahamas home.
This is an ideal time to get rid of all the junk that's accumulated over the years.
Have a back-up plan for temporary storage in case you can't take everything to your new home right away.

Moving Tip #2: Make certain your moving company protects your possessions. Every moving firm from time to time can make mistakes so it's always safer to be covered!

Moving Tip #3: Keep your most important documents safe. You do not want passports, birth certificates, house deeds and other important docs to get lost in the shuffle.
Your important docs, jewellery and medicine should remain with you throughout the move.

Moving Tip #4: Remember to change your address on bank accounts, credit cards, and driver's licences before moving. You'll also want to arrange for mail to be forwarded to your new address. Deal with the headache sooner rather than later.

Moving Tip # 5: If you're moving to the Bahamas from abroad, find out if your bank has a presence here and ask about setting up an account. No? Ask your lawyer in the Bahamas what the requirements are to set up a bank account here. Ask before you move.

Moving Tip #6: Before your move, get rid of any flammable material in a responsible way (for example fresh paint, pressurized cans and turpentine). It's illegal for moving companies in the U.S. to move flammable fluids and gasses.
